Can Botox Do Anything Else Besides Treat Wrinkles?

Everyone knows botox for its anti-aging benefits, because it’s considered a wonder drug for treating facial wrinkles. Botox is known for its ability to reduce the appearance of bothersome wrinkles, resulting in smoother skin, but can botox do anything else besides treat wrinkles.

Botox or botulinum toxin type A, is a prescription drug known for its cosmetic benefits.  However, botox also has medical benefits, three of which are discussed below.

Can Botox Do Anything Else Besides Treat Wrinkles?

Botox can reduce excessive sweating. It can provide well-needed relief for those suffering with chronic underarm sweating or hyperhidrosis. It is usually used as a last resort when other solutions such as antiperspirants have been unsuccessful. When used to treat hyperhidrosis, botox works by blocking the neurotransmitter that stimulates the sweat glands. Improvements can be seen within 2-4 days, and the results can last 3-6 months.

Botox can relieve chronic migraines. Anyone that has had migraines knows how debilitating they can be, because they can affect quality of life. Chronic migraines are typically treated with drugs, but botox is FDA approved for treating adults with severe migraines. Treatment consists of multiple injections that are done every 3 months on average.

Before it became a cosmetic treatment, botox was used for treating muscle spasms that affected the area around the eyes. It was while doctors were using it for this purpose that they recognized that it was also beneficial for wrinkles.

As long as botox is injected by a qualified medical specialist, you can expect to get positive results, with few side-effects.
