What exactly is PRP therapy for hair restoration
PRP (platelet rich therapy) is a treatment that uses a concentration of platelets derived from the patient’s blood to encourage hair growth. PRP enhances the body’s ability to heal itself, because the plasma is rich in growth factors.
Is PRP safe to use for hair restoration
PRP is a safe treatment for hair restoration, as there are no real risks associated with the procedure. The PRP that is injected into the scalp is taken from the patient’s own blood, so there is little chance of an allergic reaction.
Research has shown that when PRP is injected into the scalp it stimulates hair growth. PRP is particularly effective for androgenic alopecia which is inherited hair loss. Inherited hair loss is a problem that affects both men and women, but is much more common in men.
How PRP hair restoration works
Blood is first drawn from the patient’s arm and then placed in a centrifuge where it is spun in order to separate the red blood cells from the plasma. The PRP is then injected directly into the scalp in the areas with thinning hair. Bruising may occur after treatment, but usually resolves within 1-2 weeks.
