What is the recovery time for liposuction procedures?

If you would like to get rid of stubborn fat that is resistant to diet and exercise, liposuction is an ideal choice. Although surgicalliposuctionis considered the gold standard for fat reduction, laser-assisted liposuction has become very popular in recent years because it has fewer risks, and a shorter downtime. But how do they compare, and what is the recovery time for liposuction procedures.

Liposuction Procedures
Traditional liposuction is an invasive procedure that removes excess fat using a cannula (small tube). The cannula is used to break up the fatty deposits which are then removed via a small suction device.

Laser assisted liposuction uses laser energy applied to the tissues to liquefy the fat, after which it is suctioned out. There are a variety of laser technologies now being used for fat reduction and body sculpting, including SmartLipo and Vaser Lipo.

What is the recovery time for liposuction procedures?
The recovery time for liposuction varies depending on the type of procedure performed.  Recovery time with laser assisted lipo is shorter than with traditional liposuction. Most patients are able to resume normal activities within 3-5 days of a laser lipo procedure. However, the swelling and bruising can take up to 2 weeks to resolve.

Traditional liposuction is a more invasive procedure so you can expect a longer recovery time, and this can range from 10-14 days.

Whether you opt for traditional or laser lipo, the final results can take up to 3 months to show.
