What can PRP therapy do for me?

What can PRP therapy do for me?

PRP therapy has been used in sports medicine for many years, but has now become a popular cosmetic injectable treatment.  Due to its long association with medical procedures, people are often unaware of the aesthetic benefits of PRP so they often ask – What can PRP therapy do for me.

What is Platelet-rich-Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

PRP Therapy is a technique in which concentrated platelets obtained from the patient’s own blood, are used to regenerate specific tissues.  A blood sample is first drawn from the patient’s arm and then spun in a centrifuge, to separate the plasma from the rest of the blood.  PRP is rich in growth factors that help with healing.

What can PRP therapy do for me?

The regenerative qualities of PRP provide several benefits in aesthetic treatments.  It can boost the health and appearance of the skin, and assist with hair loss.

PRP therapy for facial rejuvenation

When PRP is injected into the skin it encourages collagen production and the new collagen adds volume to the skin and improves elasticity.  PRP also reduces scars and wrinkles.

PRP is often performed in combination with microneedling for optimal skin rejuvenation.  Microneedling also induces collagen production, so when done alongside PRP the skin regenerative effects are enhanced.  PRP with microneedling renews the health and appearance of the skin, resulting in glowing, youthful-looking skin.

PRP therapy for Hair Loss

PRP Therapy is also helpful for hair loss.  When injected into thinning areas of the scalp, the platelets release growth factors that stimulate the stem cells in the hair follicle.  PRP also increases blood circulation to the scalp and promotes hair growth.

Is FUE Hair Transplant the Best Harvesting Technique?

How Does Hair Restoration Work with Stem Cells?

Hair transplants have become so popular that hair loss is now nothing to be embarrassed about. There are two main techniques used to harvest the hair for transplant – the older strip method, and the newer Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE technique. There has been a lot of talk about the benefits of the FUE method, but is FUE hair transplant the best harvesting technique.

Hair Harvesting Techniques
With the strip method a strip of hair is surgically removed from the donor area. The hair is then separated individually before being put in the thinning area.  The wound is then sutured, leaving a linear scar.

The FUE hair transplantation technique is a newer method of hair extraction. It involves the use of an automated device to remove bundles of 1-4 hair follicles from the donor site, (usually at the back of the head). The units are then transplanted into the area affected by hair loss.

Is FUE the best harvesting technique?
Doctors don’t agree on which harvesting technique is the best. However, the FUE hair transplantation method is often preferred over the older strip method, because it does not leave a linear scar, and no stiches are required. What makes FUE so great is the fact that the scar left behind is very tiny, and almost impossible to see.

The decision regarding which technique to best is often arrived at after considering the pros and cons of both methods.

The correct extraction of the hair follicle is vital for the viability of the transplanted hair, and overall success of the procedure.  Therefore choosing a surgeon that is trained and experienced in hair surgery is an important part of the process.
