Chemical Peels vs. Laser Facial Rejuvenation: Which Helps My Skin the Best?

Chemical Peels vs. Laser Facial Rejuvenation: Which Helps My Skin the Best?

Would you like to improve the texture of your skin and fix imperfections such as wrinkles, sunspots, and acne scars? Chemical peels and laser resurfacing are both excellent solutions for damaged skin. But how can you decide which will help your skin the best.

Chemical Peels vs. Laser Facial Rejuvenation

What are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are skin resurfacing treatments that use a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layer of skin. Chemical peels vary in intensity and may be superficial, medium, or deep. The type of peel recommended will depend on the desired results. Stronger peels will strip away more layers of skin.

  • Superficial peels use alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) like glycolic acid to lightly exfoliate the top layer of the skin.
  • Medium peels typically involve the use of glycolic acid or trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to improve skin conditions such as sunspots, fine lines, wrinkles, and mild skin discoloration. These peels are more intense, and generally require more downtime than superficial peels.
  • Deep peels generally use TCA to get rid of damaged skin cells, but they are done to a deeper depth than medium or superficial peels.

There is generally some peeling and redness after a chemical peel, but the severity of the side-effects will vary based on the intensity of the peel.

Popular medical peels

SkinMedica peels are among the most popular chemical peels on the market, as they yield very good results. The Illuminize, Vitalize, and Rejuvenize peels help make the skin clearer, brighter, and more youthful. The Illuminize Peel is the mildest of the 3 peels, while Rejuvenize is the strongest.

The Vitalize peel is a medium peel and is the most sought-after of the 3 peels. It is suitable for mild skin imperfections, and can be used on all skin types. The Vitalize peel treats skin conditions such as fine lines, wrinkles, rough skin, and scars.

What is laser facial rejuvenation?

Laser facial rejuvenation uses ablative or non-ablative lasers to treat imperfections, and improve the appearance of the skin.

Ablative lasers such as the carbon dioxide (CO2) laser and the erbium laser, work by removing the outer layers of damaged skin.

Unlike ablative lasers, non-ablative lasers don’t remove the top layer of the skin. Instead, they work beneath the surface of the skin and this makes the treatment less invasive so it requires less downtime. Non-ablative lasers create microscopic wounds in the skin that trigger wound healing and stimulate collagen production.

It typically requires a series of 3-6 treatments to achieve the best results with laser facial rejuvenation.

Depending on the type of laser being used post-procedural side-effects may include swelling, bruising, and redness.

Popular laser facial rejuvenation laser treatments

The Laser Genesis by Cutera is a popular non-invasive facial rejuvenation treatment that uses an Nd: YAG laser to revitalize and resurface the skin. The Laser Genesis addresses a range of skin concerns including fine lines, wrinkles, irregular skin texture, large pores, scars and redness.

The Laser Genesis facial treatment takes about 15-20 minutes to perform. The laser emits short pulses of light that heats the upper dermis and stimulates collagen, which helps to improve the quality and appearance of the skin.

Which Helps My Skin the Best?

Chemical peels and laser facial rejuvenation both promote the growth of fresh, new skin cells by removing the old, outer layer of skin. They are also effective treatments for skin concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, hyperpigmentation, and more. However, they are very different procedures and when considering the one that will help your skin the best, it’s important to consider the specific skin concerns you need treated, as well as your skin tone and skin type.

In addition, people with darker skin tones have to be more cautious, as some types of chemical peels and laser systems are not appropriate for darker skin.

Depending on your skin type, your physician may recommend a combination chemical peel or laser resurfacing treatment for optimal facial rejuvenation.

Is There a Non-Surgical Neck lift for Tighter Skin?

Is There a Non-Surgical Neck lift for Tighter Skin?

Are you bothered by loose neck skin? A neck lift can tighten loose skin and give you a fresher look. Although a surgical neck lift is considered the gold standard for rejuvenating the neck, not everyone wants to undergo surgery. But is there a non-surgical neck lift for tighter skin.

As you age, the skin on the jawline and neck starts to sag, but there are times when the laxity is not that significant to require surgery. In these cases, a non-surgical neck lift can help.

Is There a Non-Surgical Neck lift for Tighter Skin?
Yes there is a non-surgical neck lift for tighter skin and it’s called the Profound Lift. Profound is a skin tightening treatment that uses clinically proven radiofrequency (RF) technology to contour the face and neck.

How Profound works
Profound penetrates below the surface of the skin and targets the dermal layer. It heats the tissues to stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are vital proteins in the skin that help it remain tight and elastic. The body produces less of these proteins over time, and this contributes to skin laxity. Since Profound helps to build collagen and elastin, it can smooth and tighten aging skin, which makes it a very effective treatment for loose skin on the neck.

Profound is a quick in-office procedure that takes about 45 minutes to complete. It typically takes just one treatment to achieve optimal results. Most patients report seeing improvements about 6-8 weeks after treatment.

What Makes Juvederm Volbella different from other fillers?

How Many Ultherapy Treatments Are Needed To See Results?

If you would like to add fullness to your lips, or you’re bothered by the lines that appear around them, now may be the time to consider Juvederm Volbella. But since there are several other FDA-approved lip fillers on the market, you may be wondering what makes Juvederm Volbella different from other fillers.

What is Juvederm Volbella?
Juvederm Volbella XC is a dermal filler by Allergan that is specially designed to augment the lips and soften the appearance of perioral rhytids, which are the fine vertical lines around the mouth.

Several clinical studies have been carried out to verify the safety and effectiveness of Juvederm Volbella. Participants in the trials all noticed an increase in the fullness of their lips, and a reduction in perioral lines. The results lasted through one year in most cases.

What makes Juvederm Volbella different?
The major difference between Juvederm Volbella and the other lip fillers now available relates to its formulation. Volbella is made from hyaluronic acid (HA) using Allergan’s advanced Vycross technology.

Vycross is a special technique that puts together different molecular weights of HA. The resulting product is smoother, so it works remarkably well to augment the lips.
Juvederm Volbella is a thicker formulation of HA, and so less product is used for treatment, resulting in less swelling.

Juvederm Volbella refines and contours the lips, and gives subtle, natural looking results that can last up to 12 months.

How does the ExpresS-Lift differ from a traditional facelift?

Are you thinking about a facelift, but looking for a procedure with more natural results and less downtime? You may want to consider the Express-Lift. It will leave you looking refreshed and youthful, and people may not notice you’ve had surgery at all. But how does the Express-Lift differ from a traditional facelift.

Age, gravity, stress, and the environment, all contribute to facial aging. Before you know it deep creases, folds, and wrinkles start to show up on your face. The Express Lift can rejuvenate your facial features. It is especially beneficial for patients in their mid-40’s who would like to improve their appearance, so they look better as they age.

The Express-Lift Facelift
The Express-Lift Facelift can correct a slack jawline, as well as sagging in the midface and neck. The procedure will improve the appearance of your jowls, jawline, chin, and neck.

How the Express-Lift differs from a traditional facelift.

  • Results are subtle and more natural. A natural-looking correction of facial features is achieved with the Express-lift, by lifting the fascia in a more vertical direction.
  • Performed using local anesthesia. The traditional facelift is typically done under general anesthesia.
  • Incisions are shorter when compared to the traditional facelift; therefore the resulting scars are not noticeable.
  • Fewer complications.
  • Recovery time is shorter because there is less bruising and swelling. Swelling often resolves within 4-7 days.

What is the best injectable treatment for forehead wrinkles?

Deep forehead wrinkles make you look like you are frowning all the time, which can be very annoying. Luckily, you can get rid of these wrinkles without surgery, by using cosmetic injectables. But what is the best injectable treatment for forehead wrinkles, and how long does it last?

Why you get forehead wrinkles
Forehead wrinkles occur because of the loss of skin-enhancing collagen and elastin, as you age. These proteins help the skin to easily snap back into shape when you frown or squint, but levels diminish as time passes. As a result, the skin becomes less firm, causing wrinkles and fine lines to become more prominent.

Botox for Forehead wrinkles
Forehead wrinkles generally respond very well to treatment with botox cosmetic. Botox is injected into the muscles, and it temporarily halts the repetitive muscle movements that give rise to frown lines, and other dynamic wrinkles.  The reduction in muscle activity will help the frown lines to soften.

Botox is considered the best injectable treatment for forehead wrinkles, because it impacts the underlying muscles. Using botox alone is generally able to resolve these wrinkles, as it reduces facial expressions.

However, incases where the forehead lines are deeply etched, botox may not be enough, and fillers may have to be used alongside it. Botox works on the muscles, and then the soft tissue fillers plump out the deep wrinkles.

How long does botox last?
Botox typically lasts 3 to 6 months.

How Botox can boost elastin in your face

Botox is an effective anti-aging treatment, and is probably the most common cosmetic treatment in the US. We know that botox can reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles across the forehead, and at the corner of the eyes, but can it also improve the elasticity of the skin. Recent studies suggest that it can. So let’s find out just how botox can boost the elastin in your face.

The findings of a recent study out of Canada, suggest that botox may have long-term benefits for the skin. The research which was carried out by Dr. James P. Bonaparte (University of Ottawa), and Dr. David Ellis (University of Toronto), indicate that botox positively affects elasticity. The researchers noted that botox positively impacts both the pliability and elasticity (ability to recoil) of the skin.

The 43 women who completed the study were all given botox injections in the upper face. None of them had previously received botox injections. All the women had their skin assessed before and after the botox injections, using a device known as a ‘Cutometer.’  The Cutometer is used by plastic surgeons to measure changes in skin elasticity.

At the expiration of the 4 month study, all the women experienced an increase in the elasticity of their skin, which made their skin appear more youthful. The period of the changes in skin elasticity paralleled the duration of the effect of botox.  The study was published in the JAMA Facial and Plastic Surgery, and can be viewed online at http://archfaci.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=2293061.
